Voice for the Performer

Singing

From beginner to professional, I provide tools to improve your technique through helpful feedback and coaching. I teach based upon the fundamentals of breath, alignment, healthy vocal production, and tone quality. Although my foundation is in classical singing, I use those fundamentals to teach singers in any and all styles ranging from Pop, Jazz, Rock, to all styles of Musical Theatre while emphasizing healthy vocal production above all else.  In your lessons, I guide you  through specific vocal exercises meant to strengthen your voice, as well as discover what traits to build on that set your voice apart and amplify what is uniquely you! I work with you in assigning appropriate yet challenging repertoire and assisting you in your own search of finding songs fitting to the style of your choice and preferences.

Voice for the Actor

An actor’s voice is their instrument and quality technique is necessary.  With a focus on presence, breath, alignment, text, articulation, optimum pitch, and tone quality, I coach you to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to using your voice.  I use articulation and vocal exercises that are aimed at strengthening the vocal instrument and increasing range, resonance, and clarity. From classical to contemporary material, I bring your voice to what the play demands.

Acting for the Singer

Classical Singers have the task of learning pitches, rhythms, foreign languages, years of vocal technique and stage craft. The stories they spin on the stage are larger than life, as well as intimate and human.  Yet often in a singer’s training, the craft and skill of acting is barely touched upon.  As a professional singer who has worked with actors for over a decade, I see where the two paths cross and I provide a clear and accessible way for singers to connect to the wants and needs of their characters and create an embodied performance that is present, powerful, and dynamic in its storytelling.

Spoken Voice for the Singer

Many singers when switching gears to speaking find it quite challenging and nerve wracking. But breathing for a phrase of Verdi is quite different than a breathing to speak on a podcast, play, or classroom. The mechanics are the same, but the givens are quite different. I coach singers how to speak with as much confidence and ease as they do when singing.
